
‘Mummy why do you always tell us to be thankful?”
I got this question from my little one the other day and got me thinking. Admittedly we talk about being grateful but I have never sat my children down to explain to them why. I found myself searching through scripture to see the stories that talk about gratitude and thanksgiving.
This how I got inspiration to write about gratitude.

Bible Stories About Thanksgiving and Gratitude
Here are 2 bible stories about thanksgiving and gratitude.
1. Jesus Heals Ten Men with Leprosy –Luke 17:11-19
The story of the ten men with leprosy talks about how Jesus healed the men but only one man came back to tell Jesus thank you. how these men on seeing Jesus cried and asked him to heal them. Jesus cleansed and healed them of the disease but only one man came back to say thank you.
11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.
15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.
17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

2. Job’s Gratitude Even in Suffering – Job 19: 7-27
The story of Job’s long suffering and his faithfulness despite his tribulations is great story to draw lessons of gratitude from.
Job was thankful and remained faithful despite his suffering. He believed that God would not forsake him and that in the end He will stand for him.
7 “If I cry out concerning wrong, I am not heard.
If I cry aloud, there is no justice.
8 He has fenced up my way, so that I cannot pass;
And He has set darkness in my paths.
9 He has stripped me of my glory,
And taken the crown from my head.
10 He breaks me down on every side,
And I am gone;
My hope He has uprooted like a tree.
11 He has also kindled His wrath against me,
And He counts me as one of His enemies.
12 His troops come together
And build up their road against me;
They encamp all around my tent.
13 “He has removed my brothers far from me,
And my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.

And my close friends have forgotten me.

How my heart yearns within me!
Conclusion; Be grateful in all circumstances
How many times do we find ourselves complaining about things that are not working for us? We often look at things not working and forget to be grateful for the goodness of God in our lives.
Whatever your situation, be thankful. God wants us to be content and grateful. That way you will have peace and contentment and God will bless you even more.
